In terms of design, the Motorola Moto G7 Play is a near carbon copy of its predecessor, the Moto G6 Play.

That's not a bad thing, though, as it looks pretty sharp. It measures 5.85 by 2.81 by 0.32 inches (HWD) and comes in at 5.33 ounces. A 5.7-inch display still dominates the front of the phone, though the chunky top bezel has been replaced by a more discreet camera notch. It has the same polycarbonate back, though it's available in black or blue this time.

A distinct round camera stack rests at the top of the back panel, with a well-placed fingerprint sensor embedded in the Motorola logo below.The 5.7-inch LCD has an 18:9 aspect ratio with 1,512-by-720 resolution. Pixel density comes in at 294ppi. It can't compare with more expensive phones like the Nokia 7.1 or OnePlus 6T, but it looks perfectly acceptable.

The Moto G7 Power is about the same resolution, but gives you more surface area to work with, at 6.2 inches. Durability is a mixed bag. The polycarbonate back should hold up better against drops compared with the more expensive glass-backed Moto G7 models, but the display is constructed of older Gorilla Glass 3. It's been years since Motorola sold a waterproof budget phone, and the Play is no exception. Your best bet is to put it in a durable, waterproof, case.
